World Baking Day
Sunday 20th May 2012
Some Cakes & Bakes from my Recipe Box!
Apparently it’s World Baking Day today – and you can find out all about it here: World Baking Day and #Caking. Any day that is a baking day is GOOD for me, as I LOVE baking and can often be found in the kitchen up to my ears in flour and butter……..as well as scraping out the cake bowl – don’t you JUST love scraping out the cake bowls? The aim of World Baking Day appears to be to bake a cake and photograph it in a “crazy” place and then share it, in a virtual sense, as in share the photograph; just as well it’s only photos that I am sharing today, as most of the cakes and bakes featured on my blog today have been devoured LONG ago! I may submit some of my cakes to the website later on, but it may be tricky as I am in fact BAKING all day today, so we’ll see if I have time. However, as I have lots of lovely cake and bake recipes to share already, please help yourselves to the “virtual feast” below! First in line on the Lavender and Lovage Gallery of Cakes & Bakes, is my CLASSIC Victoria Sandwich Cake, with home-made lemon curd:

Next in the lush line of cakes, is another citrus cake, a light and fluffy Fresh Orange Layer Cake with Citrus Curd Buttercream:

Now on to something more chocolatey, also with oranges too……..Chocolate Orange Daisy Cake – a fabulous cake that is made with Cadbury’s Philadelphia Cheese, a recent addiction of mine!

Time to get French and philosophical with cake, anyone fancy visiting my Salon de Thé with some Classic French Madeleines? The look no further and click on the link above for my Classic French Madeleines:

Back to chocolate again, funny how that happens isn’t it?! Here is a fabulous Chocolate Orange Drizzle Cake, that would grace any Tea Time table…..

Gingerbread or ginger cake always seems to me to be a wintry cake, but hey, it’s 2012 and it’s May, so it’s COLD and WET, so why not indulge in some Dark Sticky Double Gingerbread with your cup of tea today:

Baking for me would NOT be baking without scones, and if you want to check our all FIFTY SIX entries of scones from one of my Tea Time Treats challenges, then here are the TWO links that take you right there: Tea Time Treats Scones 1 and Tea Time Treats Scones 2 and here is one of my scone recipes, Buttermilk Scones with Sour Cherry Jam:
Another mainstay of my baking days are biscuits……or cookiesas some people call them! One of my VERY favourite biscuit recipes is Melting Moments – and I am not ashamed to say that this recipe comes from my trusty Be-Ro Cookbook……

…..and another CLASSIC bake from this iconic of baking books is of course Rock Cakes or Rock Buns.

I COULD stay here for hours and hours sharing all my cakes and bakes, but as I said earlier, I AM BAKING today! So, I leave you with my last cakey offering, a fabulous rustic style cake which is easy to whip up, Harvest Apple Cake. This cake can be made out of harvest time of course, do try to use British apples though!

That’s it for today, I hope you have enjoyed my Cakey Bakey round-up, and maybe I have inspired you to cake a cake today…….DO let me know if you bake today, and more importantly, let me know if you decide to photograph it in a CRAZY place! Have a wonderful Sunday and World Baking day! Karen
