Review: A Handmade Cake through your Letterbox!
Baker Days Cakes by Post
I was sent a LETTERBOX cake to review recently by Baker Days, and I must admit I was somewhat sceptical at first – how can a cake be sent through the post, but I was pleasantly surprised when my letterbox cake arrived – it did indeed slip through my letterbox and it was beautifully packaged with the cake being in a neat little tin to keep it fresh, complete with candles, a gift card, balloons and a party horn too………just perfect for a FUN and VERY tasty gift!
My cake was personalised for ME and was a delectable and VERY moist chocolate cake with chocolate chips……what they call a Double Chocolate Chip Cake. It was big enough to serve 2 to 3 people at a push, but as it was rich, I think smaller slices would be much better anyway. I have to say the decoration was just LOVELY and it was very impressive indeed!
The ‘letterbox cake’ is a brand new product innovation: designed to be posted and drop safely onto the mats of your family and friends. It’s the right size to fit through the letterbox so you don’t have to worry about someone being in to take delivery. There are over 400 designs and five cake flavours to choose from: Madeira, lemon, fruit, carrot and double chocolate chip. You personalise your cake with messages and can upload a photo eg the person or a special moment. Your personalised letterbox cake starts at just £14.99 including delivery. Simply go to www.bakerdays.com to choose and create your own special gift. If Royal Mail can reach your loved one, so can a Bakerdays cake.
MY verdict? Great fun and LOTS and LOTS of designs to choose from, including photo uploads; the cake I received was moist and rich, and tasted almost home-made; the tin was a great idea for keeping the cake safe during postage, as well as storage to keep the cake fresh after opening it; the balloons, party horn and candles was a nice touch too. The £14:99 included delivery charges, makes this cake good value, considering you have lots of options to personalise the cake……the cakes aren’t enormous, but then they wouldn’t fit through the letterbox if they were! I would say that the cakes would make a great gift for one or two people, and I can see these cakes being especially popular for grandparents, children away from home, say at university or as a fun cake for friends and colleagues.
