Simply Cook with Gousto – Ready Meals Delivered to your Doorstep:
A Review
Picture the scene, you have been at work all day, the commute has been horrendous and you finally make it home, dishevelled and hungry; the cat has been sick, the children are still up and playing up and your husband/partner has been to the pub after work for someone’s leaving drinks, and is three sheets to wind……the fridge is empty, the freezer is bereft of anything suitable to eat and you just feel tired, hungry and fed-up! Then picture this scene, all of the above are still the same as before, BUT, you ordered a Gousto meal plan package last week, and there in the fridge, as well as in a lovely little Hessian bag, are CHEF style meals, all weighed out and portioned with high quality ingredients and easy to follow recipe cards! Voila! NO stress, no shopping, no hunger and LOVELY meals ready to sling in the oven or a pan to cook!
That is exactly the scene that met me a few weeks ago, minus the sick cat, naughty children and drunk husband I hasten to add! Gousto very kindly sent me a three-day two meal package to try out and review, and I was also able to choose my menus, and this is what I picked:
1. Lamb with Almond, Rosemary, Pepper and Sun-Dried Tomato Ragu
2. Tamarind, Prawn, Edamame Sauce with Rice Noodles
3. Gorgonzola, Sage, Cranberry and Walnut Penne
The ingredients were all ready prepared, ready to cook and the portions already weighed and measured; the recipe cards were easy to use, and I have to say that the recipe choices on offer were VERY imaginative and tasty. The ingredients were also seasonal, organic and very fresh, and the whole cooking procedure was fun, and VERY easy. Gousto’s sourcing policy is to provide the highest quality, local ingredients, mainly from the UK’s countryside with its wealth of farms, fields and forests. Most of their suppliers are from the South West and East Anglia where some of the Gousto team has their roots, and their fish comes mainly from Scotland or the South of England. I was also pleased to see that the packaging they use, is largely bio-degradable, and the little re-usable Hessian bag was nice touch for the dry ingredients. You can choose from a Gourmet Box with seafood and meat, or a Veggie Box, which is all vegetarian.
I was DELIGHTED with my meals, and they fed the two of us for three mid-week nights, taking the pressure of me when I was particularly busy, whilst providing “home-cooked” meals to a gourmet level. We both loved the Lamb with Almond, Rosemary, Pepper and Sun-Dried Tomato Ragu, which was extremely tasty and filling…….whilst the Gorgonzola, Sage, Cranberry and Walnut Penne made a great meat-free meal , but with bags of flavour. The Tamarind, Prawn, Edamame Sauce with Rice Noodles was MUCH better, and healthier than a Chinese Take-Away, and the combination of flavours and textures worked very well together.
The Lavender and Lovage rating for this service, is a GREAT 4 out of 5 (1 point was lost as the prawns were from Ecuador and not Scotland or somewhere else in the UK) and we both thought that the choice of menus were imaginative and interesting, plus the cost was very reasonable when you consider that the box is delivered to your door and the meals are all ready to cook……so, no or not much prep is needed. Available in orders of 2, 4 or 6 portions, Gousto is perfect for both couples and families. Alternatively, indulge in a larger order to host the perfect supper soiree, and with dinner party quality menus too. The classic subscription starts from £5.00 per meal and the vegetarian option from £4.50, making it family friendly and great value for money…….PLUS, I have been offered a 50% DISCOUNT code to offer to all of my readers, so why not try it for yourself now?

Imaginative and interesting, Gousto Gourmet meals are easy to prepare and the ingredients are seasonally, and, locally sourced (in the main), which is good news for me! I loved the choice of recipes on offer, and found the recipe cards a breeze to follow. My post-work kitchen endeavour was rewarded with a home-cooked meal to highest quality, and all in half the time than it normally takes me to prepare and cook a meal. Highly recommended. Looks interesting, the contents certainly look fresh.
It was a handy thing to have, when I was so busy and the meals were very imaginative too!
the discount is no longer valid
It was valid when I posted the piece, I assume there would be a cut off point – but they do have other offers too! Thanks!
