Post Christmas Blow Out!
After the Party is Over….
Refreshing Detox Fresh Fruit Salad
Yes, it was a blow out ~ a two day period of unimaginable greed and gluttony and didn’t we all enjoy it! After weeks of planning and preparation, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day arrived with a loud clatter of knives and forks and the constant clinking of glasses, along with gargantuan platters of amazing food and wonderful company…….we ate, we drank, we sang, we danced and we slumped into our beds in the wee hours of the morning. Today arrived with an unexpected chill, minus zero temperatures and a hard white frost, as well as a slippery drive back home having spent a wonderful Christmas Day at our friend’s house. We rushed straight down to the bottom of the garden to let the chickens out of their hut, they were NOT impressed with their enforced extra hour’s confinement, but, there were two Boxing day eggs waiting for us, bless their downy feathers. We unpacked our overnight bags, plugged in the Christmas tree lights, viewed the heap of abandoned wrapping paper with shock and amazement, and then decided to bung it all in a black bin bag for now……the next thing on the agenda was breakfast.
Bacon and eggs were discussed and then quickly dismissed……fried egg sarnies were also mentioned but filed for later delectation….and then I had a thought ~ a refreshing fruit salad, I had all the fruit to hand, the fruit bowl was overflowing with exotic varieties from all over the world…… clementines and mangoes were doing the tango alongside grapes and pomegranates, whilst apples and a large pineapple were trying to escape the confines of their crystal prison…..a detox salad is what we needed and it’s what I made. I served the salad alongside a few naughty little brioche buns and we did imbibe in a small Buck’s Fizz each……but it was essentially a fruity reprieve from a fat laden cooked breakfast.
This is one of my favourite recipes for the festive season, and I have made it for the last two years on Boxing Day…..it’s also wonderful brunch recipe for “the morning after” or when you need an early boost for a busy day ahead; although this is super healthy and refreshing, I have also served this as the dessert dish for a buffet, BUT with champagne instead of orange juice. (Just another idea for dressing this fresh fruit salad up with frills) This is not only healthy, but it is SO festive and colourful ~ my photos show the one I made this Boxing Day; I usually add kiwi fruit too, but we had run out of them…….oooops! The quantities listed here make enough for 6 to 8 people, but this can be increased as well as reduced to suit personal requirements. I normally serve this with crème fraiche or vanilla yoghurt, but it’s also wonderful when served “naked”, the salad that is, not me! The fruits I have suggested are rich in vitamins and antioxidants for a quick mental boost, as well as a rapid detox to aid recovery after a heavy night or, after indulging in rich food, but please do adapt this to your own seasonal and local produce if you wish.

Ah, this is such a good idea after the indulgence of Christmas. Sadly I'm still in my 'chocolate coins for breakfast' phase but hoping to move on to healthier things very soon! Gorgeous photos and such beautiful colours 🙂
