Save our Puddings! The Demise of British Puddings. It seems hard to believe, but according to English Heritage, British puddings are no longer popular.

The British Pudding is Facing Extinction

I’ve posted about certain British recipes becoming extinct before, but now, English Heritage has sounded the alarm that the good old British pudding is facing extinction.
Research from the charity suggests two-thirds of households in England, Wales and Scotland make puddings only once a month or less, while a third never bake or boil or steam one.

English Heritage warned that if nothing was done to stem the tide, the great British pudding will not exist in 50 years, which would be such a shame, and yet another erosion of our culinary history.
I’ll repeat what I said before, NOT on my watch! I have dozens of traditional British puddings on my website here, both sweet and savoury.

Dr Andrew Hann, (senior curator of history at English Heritage) defines puddings as cooked sweet courses that follow a main meal – so not just traditional “puddings” typically made in mould or basins but also dishes such as apple pies or crumbles.
I’m sharing some of my most popular puddings today, in a virtual Pudding Cookbook below – I do hope you enjoy them, if you make them, and you are inspired (as I am), to save our British Puddings. Karen

Fabulous recipe for summer pudding. I did not know it was not cooked. I’ve been wanting to try it. Will let you know how it comes out. I do make steamed puddings in fall and winter. I use a tinned pudding mold with a lid. Thanks Karen.

I love summer pudding and it’s so easy to make. I always used to make one and take it with some prawns for starters (dad loved them) to my parents house on New Year’s Eve (Summer in Australia). My husband was working and my daughter was chronically ill and couldn’t go out so I tried to make something a bit special for us all.
Spotted D… I just got reprimanded for using the D word. Ha, Ha)Treacle Tart, Apple Pie with lots of lovely custard. Aah, happy memories of my childhood.
