Suffolk Gold Double Cheese Burger

Whenever we go across to The Star Country Inn for a family meal out, in North Yorkshire, dad and I start to discuss which burgers we will have before we even get there! We are both fully paid up burger aficionados and The Star Inn does a great range of burgers made with locally sourced beef.  There are several favourites on the menu, with the “Fat Elvis Burger” and the “Black and Blue Burger” coming in as the top two; the Fat Elvis Burger is topped with bacon and Cheddar cheese, whilst the Black and Blue Burger is a clever (and tasty) combination of black pudding with Stilton cheese, hence its quirky name. All the burgers are served with salt and pepper chips (lush) and home-made coleslaw, and they are a real treat for both of us.

Dad always has his sans bun and I always have the bun, but it’s always a burger we order when we go there. Burgers are my favourite kind of food – not the soft, pappy type that you get in most large fast-food burger chains, but an honest to goodness 100% prime British beef burger, fully loaded please. So, when I was thinking about what I could make for Father’s Day and what my post would feature, it seemed wholly suitable to feature burgers, and not just any burgers, but my Top Ten Burger Recipes, along with a NEW recipe of mine for a Suffolk Gold Double Cheese Burger.

Suffolk Gold Double Cheese Burger

Before I share the recipe for this fabulous, fully loaded double cheese burger, made with Suffolk Gold and Suffolk Blue cheese, as well as being dressed with a good dousing of Stokes tomato ketchup, I would like to share a Top Ten Burgers list with you, of burgers that have caught my eye recently! These recipes hail from other food blogs, as well as a few that I found on the internet, and there’s also a small gallery at the end of this post of some my other burger recipes……..so, if you are looking for inspiration for what burger to cook for your dad this Sunday, look no further!

These delicious double loaded cheese burgers are made with selected Suffolk ingredients and would be perfect for Father's Day or a summer barbecue. Serve with salad and chips for a tasty, filling meal and don't forget the relishes, pickles and more ketchup on the side!

Ingredients

  • 500g lean minced beef or steak (15% fat content is best)
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 4 slices of Suffolk Gold cheese (or cheese of your choice)
  • 4 slices of Suffolk Blue cheese (or blue cheese of your choice)
  • 4 large bread buns, split and toasted (I used wholemeal with seeds)
  • Stokes tomato ketchup (or ketchup of your choice)
  • salad and chips to serve

Optional

  • Burger sauce

Note

These delicious double loaded cheese burgers are made with selected Suffolk ingredients and would be perfect for Father's Day or a summer barbecue. Serve with salad and chips for a tasty, filling meal and don't forget the relishes, pickles and more ketchup on the side!

Directions

Step 1 Heat a large griddle pan or frying pan and grease it with a little oil; alternatively, heat up a La Plancha grill or a Barbecue.
Step 2 Mix some salt and pepper with the minced beef or steak and shape into four large burgers; I shaped mine to fit the buns I was using.
Step 3 Cook the burgers in the pan or on the La Plancha or Barbecue for about 3 to 4 minutes on one side, according to how you like your burgers and the thickness of them.
Step 4 Turn them over and add the sliced tomatoes, onions and the two slices of cheese - one slice of Suffolk Gold and one slice of Suffolk Blue per burger and cook for a further 2 to 3 minutes, or according to taste.
Step 5 Meanwhile, split the buns in half and toast them; arrange them on a plate and put some tomato ketchup on the bottom half as well as burger sauce if using.
Step 6 Carefully place a cooked and loaded burger on top of the bottom half of bread bun and serve with assorted pickles, salad, relished and chips.

That Suffolk Gold burger looks amazing! I love burgers but often leave the bun as it gets a bit too much. This looks perfect though. Thanks for the round up of all the burger variations. GG

Loads of fab burgers for all tastes and diets – even a 5:2 one! Could I be cheeky and offer another unusual one to you? Last year I posted a teriyaki portobello burger with homemade wasabi mayo {http://bit.ly/1vr16nk}. It’s exceedingly juicy and full of flavour. Mushrooms are terrific doppelgängers for meaty burgers if you don’t look too closely! Love your cheesy burger too. I’ve never been to the Star Inn, but it has been on my list for ages.

I LOVE a burger. I don’t think people are allowed to live in Kansas and not like burgers. My favorites are (1) mushroom & swiss with horseradish mayo on a brioche bun*, (2) a “Fat Kid” with a fried egg and mayo, and (3) a blue cheese & bacon burger.

*Seriously the best burger I’ve ever had from a place called Patty Wagon in my hometown of Oklahoma City. I demand to be taken there every time I visit!

Love both of those burger ideas Lauren, especially the Swiss and Mushrooms……and served on a brioche bun, super lush! Actually, I’ve never met a burger I haven’t liked!
