Today, the 2nd February, is Candlemas and La Chandeleur – this ancient festival marks the midpoint of winter (the half way point between the shortest day and the spring equinox) and also the end of Epiphany. Whereas we celebrate pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day, across the Channel in France, they get flipping their crêpes before us on the 2nd February, which they call La Chandeleur. I’d like to share some Crêpe and Pancake Ideas for La Chandeleur (Candlemas Day) today, as well as tell you all about a FABULOUS prize that Bonne Maman are giving away on their website.

Crêpe and Pancake Ideas for La Chandeleur:
A fun way to serve pancakes for the whole family – make a batch of crepe style pancakes, and then arrange all the “fixings” on a large platter, board or tray. I used Bonne Maman Strawberry Conserve, along with clotted cream, fresh strawberries and bananas, “hundreds and thousands” sprinkles and chocolate vermicelli.
Salted Caramel Apple Pancakes – A delectable and very easy way to serve your pancakes for weekend breakfast, dessert or for Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) Use my basic pancake batter for this recipe.
Sweet Clementine & Bitter Orange Crêpes – Delicious golden, lacy pancakes served with warm sweet clementines in a bitter orange marmalade sauce.
Baked Rhubarb & Strawberry Clafoutis Pancake – A delicious oven baked clafoutis style pancake that is served with rhubarb & strawberry conserve and an oat & almond crumble topping.
Delicious savoury crêpes that would make a fabulous family supper dish for any midweek meal or for La Chandeleur or Shrove Tuesday (pancake day)
If serving these crêpes warm, try adding a small, softly fried egg on top.
A delicious combination of crispy apples with wild blueberry conserve, all rolled up in lacy crêpes.
These pancakes are made with my standard batter mixture, recipe below, and then have a dollop of marmalade spread over them before folding into quarters and serving. More marmalade adorned the top of the pancakes and voila, a pancake treat fit for Paddington Bear!
