Brownies, Cupcakes & Samosas for
The Big Feastival
Delicious Magazine & Brita
Just under a month ago, I was invited to attend the finalists cook off as a judge for Showcase your Food at The Big Feastival competition with Delicious magazine and Brita; myself and four fellow judges, Rebecca from Delicious magazine, Felicity from the Big Feastival, Fiona from the Kids’ Cookery School and Lucy from BRITA all converged on a kitchen in London where we tasted out way through ten delicious dishes, all cooked and baked by the finalists. From deep, crusty pies to vanilla infused decorated cupcakes, and with a few other delights along the way we had a very difficult job on our hands, but someone has to do it, and do it we all did! It is with pleasure that I formally announce the winners today, who will be selling their winning creations at The Big Feastival this weekend, from the 29th to the 31st August. As well as selling their winning recipes, each winner also received a BRITA tap to enable them to continue to discover the results of cooking with filtered water, as they all used a BRITA Talori tap at the cook-off. BRITA taps are the most convenient way to get filtered water in the kitchen, and you can read my review here: Better with Brita: How to get the BEST from your Ingredients with Filtered Water. Look out for my next review on the jugs as well as a new recipe using filtered water soon.
So, here are the winners…….we have Gluten Free Brownies, Vanilla Cupcakes and Samosas in the winning menu:
Alex’s gluten-free brownies
Alex created his gluten-free brownies after discovering that there was a lack of sweet treats available for his gluten intolerant sister. He’s passionate about people enjoying food and wanted to get the best out of his ingredients by using BRITA filtered water. The judges loved the moist chocolate centre of the brownies, as well as the interesting addition of peanut butter.
At 15 Emily was the youngest person to enter the competition. Emily used to run her own baking website, Emily’s Home Bakes, but gave it up to concentrate on her GCSE’s. The judges were impressed with the bespoke cupcakes she designed for each of the judges, especially a miniature BRITA water jug made out of icing.
Rekha’s samosas are handcrafted, from the spices to the pastry, to ensure a perfect parcel of taste. Her creations are a favourite amongst her local farmers markets as people love her Indian cooking style. She’s a perfectionist cook and ensures a golden glow by using the best ingredients, including BRITA filtered water.
At this stage I would also like to thank ALL the finalists who made our job so hard – the results were VERY close and there were some fabulous recipes. Each winner will now be able to follow their dreams and sell their creations at the Big Feastival, supported by BRITA at the brand’s stand, for one day between 31st August and 1st September, so if you are attending, do stop by and say hello to them from me, and why not buy some of their home-made goodies too!
